ABOUT US

BACKGROUD

Feminist Inclusion Leadership Center (FIL-Center) has been a leading voice for gender justice and inclusion since its inception in 2019. Originally established as the Trans Feminist Association Uganda (TFA-Ug), the organization was formed to address the urgent needs of Transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals facing systemic discrimination. However, due to Uganda’s restrictive legal environment and widespread human rights violations targeting the Queer community, the organization encountered significant Executive Directorbarriers to official registration under its original name. In response, we strategically rebranded as the Feminist Inclusion Leadership Center (FIL-Center) and successfully attained legal registration in 2023.

FIL-Center is a proudly Trans-led organization, driven by a team of passionate grassroots activists from diverse communities. We are committed to intersectional, feminist, and community-driven approaches to social change. Our multi-strategy model allows us to address complex issues through advocacy, education, outreach, and capacity-building.

We design and implement programs that support and empower women in their diversity, Transgender and non-binary individuals, along with other marginalized groups. Our core areas of focus include equitable access to healthcare, education, and justice around agenda identity and expression. Through all our work, we aim to challenge gender-based discrimination and promote inclusive feminist values that drive long-term, systemic transformation across society.

OUR MISSION

We are committed to intersectional grassroots activism. This means tackling opposing narratives around gender identity, sexuality, and expression rights by actively promoting Feminist concepts and gender transformative approaches. We foster change for societal mindset, attitude, and transformation on gender discrimination, and specifically securing equal rights for Transgender and gender diverse groups, including sex workers and key populations across all dimensions of social, political, and economic life.

Our vision

To achieve a just and peaceful world where marginalized communities’ human rights, including health, bodily autonomy, dignity, safety, and security, are safeguarded.
